Unit Outline
1. Lesson One: How the War Began
- The impacts of WWI on Germany will be discussed.
- The students will be assigned to either the side of the Allies or the Axis Powers.
- The must give the reasons as to why each side wanted to fight, & explain their impact on why the war started.
- Students will be asked the night before to read a chapter from "The Diary of Anne Frank".
- The idea behind this is to give them and understanding of what it was like during the war.
- I will share my own experiences from the Concentration Camp I visited in Germany during 2014.
- Students will be shown a clip from the movie "Pearl Harbor".
- This will be done to give the students an idea of what it was like to be there during the attacks.
- For homework, they will write a letter as a solider explaining how the events of that day made them want to join the fight.
- The film "Saving Private Ryan" opens with the American troops storming the beaches on D Day.
- Students will be shown a clip of this as well.
- It was the most lifelike battle scene that I have ever watched.
- Pictures of the cities before and after the bombs were dropped will be compared.
- Pros and Cons will be listed based on Atomic Warfare being introduced.
- What where the positives of its involvement in WWII, but also the negatives of its influence on warfare today.
- For homework, they will be asked what they believed to be the biggest event of the war, and how it changed the future.
